Ponca Oklahoma Jobs

ConocoPhillips will move more than 1,000 jobs in its oil and gas business to Ponca City within two years, a company spokeswoman said Tuesday. The country's third-largest energy company announced last month that it would lay off about 2,500 of its employees later this year. Conoco Phillips spokeswoman Tracy Harlow said the first 250 jobs will be moved to Houston and Bartlesville within a year and the second 250 to Oklahoma City by the end of the year or early 2018. The first phase will begin in October, with 180 jobs going to Houston and 100 to Tulsa, the company said.

The Houston-based company originally planned to relocate the city of Ponca late last year as a stand-alone measure. Falling energy and credit markets, however, forced ConocoPhillips to consider layoffs and include PonCA City in its overall business profitability study. In 2012, the former home of conoco Inc. could no longer have its own headquarters in the city, according to the company's press release. It later moved its headquarters to Houston and merged with Bartlesville, Texas-based Phillips Petroleum Co. and its oil and gas business in 2002.
